Barcelos rooster (cock) and its legend.

The famous legend of the rooster of Barcelos is associated with the cruise that is part of the medieval history of the city's Archaeological Museum. 

According to the legend, the inhabitants of the village were alarmed with a crime and worried about not knowing who was its author.
One day, suspected a Galician who passed through the town.
The pilgrim swore his innocence, and said he only passed through there in fulfillment of a promise to S. Tiago of Compostela, but as no one believed him, the authorities decided to arrest him and was later sentenced to hang for the fulfillment of the crime that was charged.
Before being hanged, he asked to be brought to the judge who sentenced him. Granted permission, took him to the magistrate's residence at that moment, fraternized with friends a great feast. In front of the judge, Galician again stated his innocence and, to the amazement of those present, pointed to a roast chicken that was on the table, and exclaimed: "It's so right I am innocent, this cock will sing when i am being hanged ". Everyone laughed at the poor wronged but just in case, no one dared to tamper the rooster.
What seemed impossible has become reality! When the pilgrim was being hanged, the roasted rooster stood up on the table and crowed"có-có-ró-có-có". All were amazed at this fact, no one doubted the innocence of the condemned. The judge rushed to the gallows and saw, with astonishment, the poor man rope around his neck. However, the knot lasso prevent strangulation.
He was immediately put in freedom.
Years later he returned to Barcelos and built the monument in honor of S. Tiago and the Virgin.
